Sam Ainsley
Two screen print editions for Sam Ainsley’s solo show at GOMA, Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, Wednesday is Cobalt blue, Friday is Cadmium red
Sam wrote about these two prints:
Scotland's waterways and the sea.
I drew Scotland's waterways in red and used the same line drawing in blue to suggest the sea. I am conscious of the amount of water Scotland has pouring from the sky every day and I know that water may become more precious than gold as global warming increases.
Self portrait with Red Cape.
I used a very old drawing from one of my sketchbooks and collaged a found image of red fabric suggesting a cape or covering. I was thinking of an old book by Gaston Bachelard "The Poetics of Space" where he discusses the human need for warmth, safety, protection and the Red Cape seemed to symbolise this for me.
Prints from both editions of 20 are available to purchase directly from the artist or from here and here.
