Screen print made from a vintage piece of Camera Ready artwork.

In the early eighties, in my first screen print shop in Manchester, I had the job of making gig posters for the newly opened Hacienda club. Before the era of Photoshop, text artwork was made mostly with Letraset rubbed down onto pale blue printed layout grids. They were photographed and enlarged in a huge process camera and the films, fresh from the darkroom, would be used to make silk screens. We would always run out of certain Letraset letters but never fear, one negative of a letter Y could produce plenty more Ys on film to complete the screen.

This scrap of artwork had been hanging around for years in a box in the attic but eventually it was spotted by brilliant printmaker Kate Gibb who insisted I made the screen print. Thanks Kate!
